A Curly Transition was first launched in August 2010 as a way for Dominique R. Bounds to record her natural hair transition as well as her new life in Houston, Texas, and continue to record my life after her return to Detroit, Michigan for the first time in 10 years. In 2018, ACT relaunched with a cofounder, Takyra Stanton.
This blog is designed to be a daily life blog, a lifestyle guide, and a guide to natural hair and body care for the black woman with some love for the Savior thrown in. It is our hope that we will be able to inspire others that follow our journey.
Sometimes life isn’t actually how you planned it to be. Sometimes it’s A Curly Transition because apparently not only my hair needed transitioning....

Dominique R. Bounds is a Detroit native who graduated from Ferris State University in 2010 with a bachelors in psychology and a double minor in biology and medical ethics. Before graduation from Ferris State, she attended Ball State University (CHIRP CHIRP). It was during her time at Ball State where she started blogging, and by the time she reached Ferris State the precursor to this blog (with the same name) was born.
Over the years, A Curly Transition has gone through some redesign and abandonment stages, but after some intense soul-searching finally realized exactly what she wanted A Curly Transition to become. But she was going to need some assistance. After sometimes, she met fellow wanna be blogger Takyra Stanton who shared her dream of inspiring and educating women of color about life in general.
